Congress-BJP Trade Fire Over COVID-19, India-China Border Row | To The Point | June 10, 2020
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday attacked Sonia Gandhi for “doing negative politics and misleading the people of the country on MNREGA”. Prasad also questioned Rahul Gandhi's barbs on Indo-China conflict, use of Aadhaar and Aarogya Setu App.
The Union minister accused the Congress of doining politics during the pandemic. “Sonia Gandhi says that there should not be 'BJP vs Congress' but who is doing 'BJP vs Congress'? Even in challenging times, only Congress is doing this kind of politics, Rahul Gandhi is doing it. He asked what is the benefit of lockdown, when Congress CMs were imposing it.”
Similarly, Prasad defended against Congress questioning over Aadhar and Aarogya Setu App. He said that the Aadhaar scheme was launched during the UPA era and any misgivings against are unfounded. “Today, 126 crore people of the country have an Aadhar card. 121 crore mobile phones are connected to it and 37 crore Jan-Dhan accounts have been connected through it and money is being sent to it. The central government has sent Rs 11 lakh crore to these accounts,” he said.
On the other hand, the Congress on Wednesday stepped up its attack against the government over the alleged Chinese intrusion in Ladakh with senior party leader Rahul Gandhi questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue.“The Chinese have walked in and taken our territory in Ladakh. Meanwhile, the PM is absolutely silent and has vanished from the scene,” Gandhi tweeted on Wednesday.
Ravi Shankar Prasad hit out at Gandhi, saying he should understand that strategic issues involving China must not be raised on Twitter.“We want disputes to be resolved peacefully. We will say one thing very humbly that today India is the India of 2020 and not 1962. Today’s India is of a courageous leader like Narendra Modi and not of Congress leaders,” he said. Prasad said when India works to become self-reliant, it will also do so in matters of security and referred to surgical and air strikes targeting terrorists inside Pakistan during first term of Modi government.
